John's Greek Orthodox Church is found at 602 Park Avenue in Midtown Omaha, Nebraska. the first congregation was shaped in 1907 to satisfy the wants of Omaha's then-burgeoning Greek community. the present building may be a town landmark that was originally created in 1908 for Omaha's Temple Israel, and was sold-out to the St. John's parish in 1951.[1]

History

After
massive scale immigration to Omaha beginning at the flip of the twentieth century, in 1908 Omaha's Greeks engineered Saint John's Greek Orthodox Church at sixteenth and Martha Streets in South Omaha. The parish finalized the acquisition of the previous Temple Israel on Gregorian calendar month sixteen, 1951. T

he new church was occupied in 1953 and therefore the original church was sold-out. the correct Reverend Bishop Ezekiel of the Chicago bishopric officiated the consecration of the new home of Saint John the Baptist parish on might four, 1958.[2]

The new building was designed by noted Omaha designer John Latenser, Sr. and inbuilt 1908. Omaha's solely Byzantine-style design Christian church within the town.[3] once the parish celebrated its a hundredth day of remembrance in June 2008, Omaha-native theater director and Oscar-winner Alexander Payne participated in festivities.

 "When you see the sweetness of the church, you see why folks would ne'er need to go away it," Payne aforesaid of the church, wherever he served as associate degree boy.[4]
